An impressive result, but with the usual caveats that friendlies come with.
A back and forth game. Ireland were lucky to snatch the first goal after a fairly lackluster opening 45 minutes, but they had improved immeasurably by the conclusion, especially in the defence. Italy, while failing on bad times recently, are still a quality side and it does this makeshift defence great credit to have gotten a clean sheet out of the game.
Still, we rode our luck throughout and I would deem it unlikely that a lot of the team that played last night will start against Slovakia in September. They’re ones to watch, but that all they are for the moment.
And with that, Football 10/11 has commented on its last game. More to come in terms of reviews though.
