He’s off, back home to Norway to manage old club Molde following his succesful stint as gaffer of the United reserve team.
I don’t think any United fan can begrudge him his move or not wish him further success. Not after 99.
Not after that mad, insane three minutes in Barcelona, capped off by his opportunistic strike into the roof of the Bayern net. He was in the right place and finished when it counted.
And while that famous night in 99 is rightly heralded as the great landmark of his career, let us not forget other amazing moments from “the baby-faced assassin”. The four goals in 12 minutes against Nottingham. The debut goal after just 6 minutes. Being part of a Norwegian team that beat Brazil in the 98 World Cup. His red card sacrifice against Newcastle. A Norwegian Knighthood. Coming back from a terrible injury, representing the club abroad, and coaching a new generation of youngsters to success.
A class act, an amazing player and one that I hope and believe will go on to achieve further success at the senior managerial level.
I suspect, one day, the super-sub might be back at Old Trafford. Till then, Lykke Til Molde!
